Italy is the leader of the new European project on institutional strengthening of the environmental health protection system, inaugurated on May 16 at the Georgian National Center for Public Health and Control of Diseases (NCDC).
As Ambassador Antonio Bartoli noted, "Italy is honored to share its experience in this important and delicate sector, combining two priority needs: on the one hand, economic and industrial development and job creation, on the other hand, the protection of the environment And the health of citizens and workers are key goals for a growing country such as Georgia, which wants to preserve the beauty of its nature, and to be increasingly attractive from the point of view of tourism. Our country (second Europe’s industrial power and one of the major global tourist destinations) has experienced difficult situations, but has also been able to successfully deal with them. The Italian experts are studying the epigenetic impact of environmental contamination to create a revolutionary prevention plan. Impact assessment for healthcare and environmental impact are considered when obtaining industrial licenses."
The project will be implemented within “Twinning” of public structures of European countries and Georgia. The project worth 1.3 million EUR is funded by the EU, and Georgian Ministry of Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection.
